The RW Management Centre is an organizational unit of the Fund , which includes facilities for the management of radioactive waste of the Republic of Croatia. The Centre plans to establish a central storage facility for institutional radioactive waste (IRW), and a long-term storage facility for low and intermediate level radioactive waste (LILW) from the Krško Nuclear Power Plant.
The Centre will store low and intermediate level radioactive waste. Spent nuclear fuel (SNF) will not be stored in the Centre, because the disposal of SNF requires different storage methods.
Pursuant to the Radiological and Nuclear Safety Act (official gazette “Narodne novine”, no. 141/13, 39/15, 130/17, 118/18 and 21/22), the Fund for financing the decommissioning of the Krško NPP (the Fund) is required to establish the RW Management Centre in Croatia and manage it.
